Amazon's Supply Chain Standards Manual is a crucial resource to help suppliers, vendors, and service providers understand their contractual obligations while complying with diverse local legal requirements.

As a public-facing asset, the project involved high-stakes content development challenges, requiring strict adherence to legal, PR, and branding guidelines, while ensuring the content was accessible to a global audience.

Challenges

The primary challenge was to compile, refine, and structure a wealth of information into a coherent, user-friendly document. Subject matter expertise was spread across multiple teams, and every sentence had to be vetted by Amazon’s legal and policy stakeholders. Additionally, it was crucial to ensure the Manual's accessibility across various industries, regions, languages, and cultural contexts. 

Solution

I led the project, spearheading content coordination across diverse teams, including legal and policy stakeholders as well as our audit operations experts. This entailed meticulous copyediting, ensuring compliance with Amazon's brand voice, and incorporating feedback from senior leaders to fine-tune the content.

The document's visual identity was equally important, and I used Adobe InDesign to set the text professionally, adhering to Amazon's style guide, and incorporating branded illustrations and icons for an aesthetically appealing presentation. The result was a visually engaging and informative asset with a clear and understandable hierarchy of information.

I oversaw the translation process into 20 languages, creating localized versions so that suppliers across the world could access the information and put it into practice.

Outcome

The successful creation and distribution of the Supply Chain Standards Manual empowered suppliers to align with Amazon's standards and better understand their contractual obligations.

When handling instances of non-compliance, Amazon businesses leverage the manual as a resource throughout the remediation process.
